36. Precious Treasure

by ~TheSylverCat

From the time she was only 10 years old, having grown old of the baby dolls and Easy Bake Ovens, she knew she wanted children. Not right this second of course, especially because she didn't even really know how a baby was made, but later.

As she grew and aged, she began to experience more and more. From her first kiss behind the bleachers, her sophomore year of high school, to her experiments with her hair. And though she changed so much, both physically and emotionally, the one want she had as a ten year old lingered on.

It took until her senior year of college for the feeling to go. When she started to see the bad in life. She saw the bills, the pills, the drugs, rebellion, and she wondered every night, was it even her right to brig a child into this cruel world?

She married her steady boyfriend, as soon as they graduated, not giving enough time to celebrate the single life. It was a day of joy, but also a day of surrender, saying goodbye to the carefree independent life she had dreamed of having.

He lost his job, and soon she feared getting the mail, knowing the bills had piled up. The thought of losing their house crossed their minds more than once. She decided to take a job herself and went searching. It wasn't until she found the retail store willing to take her on as a cashier.

It was a degrading job, and people treated her as though she were a leper. The scoffs and scowls thrown her way were almost enough to let herself give up hope. But she kept thinking that perhaps a child would brighten up her days.

Her wish was soon granted, when she became pregnant. A baby boy inside of her, filling her with new found hope. The couple picked out furniture and painted the room in a cliché baby blue. It was a long and painful labor, but when she had finally finished, in her arms lay the most enchanting baby she could have imagined.

She had made it this far in life, struggling to grow up, and survive in this harsh world, but she had finally received the most precious treasure.
